When choosing which type of label to use as a package label, shipping label, shipping label, etc. you should always consider where the label will be used. For example, there’s no point in using an ordinary paper label for frozen goods or a heat-sensitive DT label on goods that are exposed to sun and heat. There is a risk that the information will be lost. A paper label, on the other hand, can be perfect for labeling a cardboard box that will be thrown away shortly afterwards. You also need to take into account the material that the label will be stuck to. For example, if the label is to be attached to an excavator that is exposed to a lot of dust and dirt, it may be more ideal to use a plastic label with extra strong glue. It could also be that the label needs to be able to be taken off and on several times, in which case a removable label / label with removable adhesive is needed – and a different type of adhesive needs to be used. In addition, the label size must fit your label printer.

- How long should the label have a shelf life? A few days, months or years?
- What environment will the label come into contact with? Chemicals, heat, cold, water or something else entirely?
- Which surface should your labels be applied to?

Basically, two label technologies are used – DT (Direct Thermal) and TT (Thermal Transfer) labels.
WHAT IS DT (DIRECT THERMAL / DIRECT THERMO)?
One of the most commonly used types of labels are DT (Direct Thermal) labels, which do not use any ink or ribbon. These labels are coated with a heat-sensitive layer that changes color when the printer print head heats the label. The coating turns black in the areas where it is heated. However, these labels are not durable in environments where the label is exposed to sunlight or heat. If you need labels for general shipping labels, DT labels are the cheapest and most effective label type, as the label is usually thrown away after a short period of time.
WHAT IS TT (THERMAL TRANSFER / THERMO TRANSFER)?
Thermal transfer labels are another widely used method that uses a heat sensitive ribbon instead of heat sensitive paper. If you want your labels to last longer and look good over a longer period of time, you should use TT labels (Thermal Transfer). Especially if you are going to use your labels in a place where there is a lot of sunlight or heat over a long period of time. TT labels are not coated with a heat-sensitive layer and require the label printer to use ribbon to apply the print to the label.
